Gary's Floors has been in the business of carpet cleaning in Tracy, CA for many years now, and we have seen it all. The thing we hate most is when we are called out for a carpet cleaning and find that our professional carpet cleaning services wouldn't have been needed in the first place, if our customer had known how to deal with certain stains in the crucial moments after the mess occurred.
So, we thought we'd throw together this quick guide to help you avoid having to call in the big guns, by telling you simple ways to deal with three common household stains.
Anyone who burns candles in a carpeted house knows the horror of even a single droplet finding its way to the floor. This seemingly impossible to remove stain is actually not all that bad, if you know how to react.
All you have to do is apply a white cloth, about the thickness of an average terry cloth towel, to the area stained with wax. Then, use a common household iron to heat the wax up, and then scrape it up with a butter knife.
This will remove the majority of the wax- All that remains is to take care of what remains by repeating the same process, but with thick paper towel instead of a cloth towel. The wax will bind to the paper as it melts. Repeat this process as many times as needed to soak up all of the wax.
Note: Don't apply the iron to the floor for more than 25 seconds at a time, and always use cloth or paper towels as a buffer to avoid burning your carpet.
Coming in just after wax as one of the most horrific stains for your carpeting, blood is actually a breeze to clean up if you have hydrogen peroxide on hand.
Simply loosen up the blood with a mixture of water and a small amount of mild detergent, and carefully blot, not scrub, the excess moisture. Then, apply the hydrogen peroxide, wait for the bubbles to work their magic, and blot it gently until dry.
Rounding out the list of nightmare stains, grease is particularly important to clean up quickly, because it can attract and hold further dirt and grime which can increase the scope of a stain. Luckily, it can also be cleaned with a common household item.
Just mix a drop or two of powerful, grease-cutting dish soap with a cup of warm water, and apply a conservative amount to the affected area with a spray bottle. Then, gently blot it up with some paper towel. Particularly nasty grease spots may require multiple applications. Just be sure not to over saturate the area, to avoid mold and mildew problems down the line.
